Vitrine XIII: Gelbgeist III by Veit Laurent Kurz

Recently I got my hands on an original cinema role of Ulrich Schamonis breakthrough movie „Es“ from 1966 as well it’s review in one of the same years 1966 Filmkritik magazine. Since the film was shown this years again at the Cannes film festival it shows how little it lost of its relevance. Schamoni portraits though a mix of seriousness and comedy a young couples life and their marriage crisis resulting from a concealed pregnancy. The film portraits the feeling of restart in Post War Berlin and discloses gender images and roles of that time. Schamoni is one of my favourites of „Neues Deutsches Kino“, sadly he passed at the age of 57. I highly recommend to go through all his films. The issue of the Filmkritik also has a review of Jaques Rivette’s „The Nun“ which would be another nice vitrine ( also on its cover)….
